Flexible solar cells are an ideal choice if attached to wearable devices that receive sufficient light illumination. Batteries and supercapacitors also exhibit input and output properties that differentiate their uses.
Our finding establishes a flexible self-charged power panel to harvest and store solar and mechanical energy. The integrated device greatly minimizes the usage of current collectors, substrates and packaging materials. The self-charged power panel provides a possible way to realize flexible self-powered system in wearable electronics.
The synergy of the fiber-shaped photocathode and photoanode allows the flexible solar chargeable zinc-polyaniline battery (SZPB) to be independently solar-charged without an external circuit, as shown in Fig. 1 (a). Thus, solar power can significantly enhance the discharge process to serve various purposes of flexible devices.
Various flexible energy-harvesting technologies can convert ambient energy into electricity. These include solar cells for harvesting light energy, triboelectrics and piezoelectrics for harvesting mechanical energy, thermoelectrics and pyroelectrics for capturing thermal energy and biofuel cells for converting biochemical energy.
